Charge Up Your Style: Electric Car Plates - The Future-Proof Upgrade

Electric vehicles are the future of transport and the most eco-friendly means of conveyance. Not only are EVs efficient in performance, but they also deliver a quieter, smoother ride. If you own a Tesla or maybe an even better EV, you might want to customise it with better aesthetics and designs. Allow Plate Empire to help you with that!

The UK first announced specialised Electric Vehicle Number Plates in 2020 to support and encourage proper road conduct, specifically protecting the environment. Secondly, it complies with the UK’s vision to fully ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars starting in 2030. The introduction of green number plates is regarded as one of the most significant steps towards enhancing the quality of air in the country.

Electric Car Number Plate: Finest Manufacturing Process

EV car number plate manufacturing is not very different from that of standard number plates. They are built with the standard yellow and white reflective and acrylic for better visibility. The major difference is that a green stripe is placed longitudinally along the left side of the plate.
The green stripe has a meaning that goes far beyond aesthetics. It serves as a symbol of pride for the environmentally friendly car that you possess. Plate Empire ensures your Electric Vehicle Plates are DVLA compliant and that it tells the authorities you are one of the many people who want a better planet. We ensure your plates are built of the highest quality flexible material that can resist heavy impacts. The final process includes cleaning the plate with industry-standard gel for a glossy finish.

None. Here’s why:

  • Green Band: It is advisable to switch to new plates with a green band on them but it is not compulsory.
  • Standard Plates: Specifically allow you to retain your existing standard plates (white front, yellow rear, black text) on your electric car.

Important Regulations:

  • Colour Scheme: Every plate must conform to the DVLA regulations: white at the front and yellow at the rear, with solid black fonts.
  • Font and Customization: It is prohibited to change the font or its colour or add any effects, such as 3D letters, to the text.

Yes, ANPR cameras can effectively and accurately capture letters on the number plates. Studies by the University of Huddersfield indicate that ANPR accuracy is over 99% for compliant plates.

This is facilitated by established suppliers registered with the DVLA, such as Plate Empire, who adhere to specific standards (BS AU 145e) regarding the plate characters’ reflectivity, format, and dimensions.
